How it works

What is Power-2-Heat?
Your Guide to Sustainable Heating Solutions
Power-2-Heat is an innovative solution that transforms electrical energy into heat when there is a surplus of renewable energy on the grid, and hence prices are low or even negative. By utilizing an electric heater coupled to a smart Energy Management System and our SunTES thermal energy storage, Suncom’s Power-2-Heat systems can efficiently convert low-cost or even free electricity into thermal energy, enabling a cost saving for the client. This electric heater works similar to an e-boiler, but then heating oil instead of creating steam from water, allowing the client to utilize the superior heat storage properties of oil compared to steam.
Due to the coupling to the SunTES, this system can cover the disbalance between the electricity price fluctuations and the energy demand of the client and even allow for peak shaving in the heat demand, reducing the limitations of grid congestion. This process not only helps balance the power grid but also reduces reliance on fossil fuels, supporting the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy landscape.
